About Excel Tutoring
Executive Director Pauline Crisci-Goncalves
Pauline Crisci-Goncalves, director and founder of Excel Tutoring, has been educating students for nearly a decade. She has belonged to the International Honors Society in Education, Pi Lambda Theta, and received the Western Connecticut State University Interdisciplinary Social Science Department Award. Pauline graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Connecticut State University, where she earned her Master's degree in Special Education and dual Bachelor degrees in Elementary Education and Social Science. She holds a Connecticut teaching certificate in Elementary Education grades K-6.
Pauline believes cooperative hands-on learning is an important instructional technique and has observed that students are more likely to retain information, stay on task and participate. Manipulatives help foster the development of critical and independent thinking. Pauline stresses the recognition of learning styles and interests because these influence academic success as well.
She has extensive training and experience in academic instructional programs, such as Readers' Workshop, Dr. Nancy Boyles' reading comprehension strategies, Wilson Reading Program, Writers' Workshop, Empowering Writers, Cast-A-Spell, Everyday Mathematics, and Saxon Phonics.
In addition to her coursework, Pauline has volunteered within the community. She taught reading to Southeast Asian children through the Association of Religious Communities and served as a mentor for the Good Friends After-School Program at Roberts Avenue in Danbury.
A Brookfield native who resided in Newtown for 10 years and now lives in Bridgewater, Pauline is well versed in both Connecticut and local school district standards and the academic needs of students with varying abilities. She is a past board member of the Connecticut Education Association and served as the Connecticut Education Association Student Program Vice-Chair.
Currently, Pauline serves on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown. She also continues her volunteer work through Connecticut Junior Women. Pauline is a member of the National Tutoring Association.

The Center
Our move to a central new location enabled us to create a space that embodies our inviting philosophy and one-to-one focus. Our staff conveys their commitment to assisting clients starting at our front desk. Clients quickly become friends. Light suffuses the space, with a relaxed yet studious atmosphere.
A walk into the tutoring area reveals comfortable study rooms along the right wall, full-service technology, including Mac and Windows PC’s, copying and color printing on the left and a custom built conference-sized quiet room.
We offer plentiful supplies and curricula for our tutors and students.
